When Transcribe2Text is the better fit

  • You work with sensitive recordings. Transcribe2Text processes audio locally on your device. Its privacy policy says it does not transmit, access or store your audio or transcripts on its servers. The only thing the app sends is a license key, over SSL, to activate the product. That suits client conversations, internal meetings, research interviews and personal recordings.
  • You'd rather pay once than subscribe. It's $20 one time for version 1 and every 1.x update, with no per-user monthly fee.
  • Your recordings are long. Transcribe2Text supports audio files up to 1 GB and lists no monthly minute cap. Otter's plans set per-conversation limits (30 minutes to 4 hours) and monthly minute limits.
  • You transcribe files you already have. Drag in a WAV, MP3 or M4A file, or record with your microphone. Otter's free plan allows 3 lifetime file imports, and Pro allows 10 per month.
  • You need a reviewable, timestamped transcript. Edit timestamped segments while you listen, click any timestamp to jump to that point in the audio, and export as TXT, SRT or VTT. That's useful for interviews, research, captions, and the attorney and investigator workflows described on our blog.
  • You want a simple tool, not another always-on service. There's no app running all the time. Open Transcribe2Text when you have audio, transcribe it, and get back to work.

When Otter might fit better

We want you to pick the right tool. Otter may be the better choice if:

  • You mainly need live meeting notes. Otter joins Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet to write and share notes automatically, with live transcription.

  • You need speaker identification. Otter identifies speakers, including by name.
  • You transcribe in several languages. Otter lists English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese and Chinese. Transcribe2Text doesn't currently list supported languages on its site.
  • Your team collaborates on transcripts. Otter offers shared channels, comments and highlights, admin controls, and CRM and Zapier integrations. Enterprise adds SSO/SCIM and a HIPAA add-on.
  • You want mobile apps or a free plan. Otter has iOS and Android apps and a free Basic plan with 300 transcription minutes per month.
